Gadget

Gadget is a 26 year old  half Tennessee Walker and half quarter horse from Buffalo, WY.  She is an owner surrender also as her owner has recently encountered serious health issues that prevent her from riding and caring for this girl,  who she has owned and loved for the past 20 years. Gadget is fully vetted and ready to find a new forever home. She is a great trail riding horse. Gadget is cinchy and fine under saddle. She is a bit swaybacked and we recommend using a build up pad for her comfort. She will need and intermediate or advanced rider. Gadget will have some dietary management needs.

Phoebe

Phoebe is a 25 year old retired barrel horse and is an owner surrender.  She is a companion horse only as she is no longer ridable, has knobby knees and had a significant hoof injury that ended her barrel racing several years ago. Owners had her only a short time as a companion horse for their senior horse who passed away last summer. They are going to sponsor Phoebe here at the rescue but are no longer having any of their own horses as they are retired also. She is adoptable as a companion horse or pasture pet ONLY. Due to her past injuries she is not able to be ridden anymore. Phoebe is the sweetest horse ever!  Come visit her if you can. She loves carrots!

Duchess

Duchess is a 25-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse mare from Hermosa, South Dakota. This beautiful black mare has a gentle, eager-to-please personality and is always the first to meet us at the gate—especially if treats are involved. As a gaited horse, she offers an exceptionally smooth ride, particularly at the trot. Duchess is quite responsive to leg cues and does best with a bit that provides some leverage, as she can be a little slow to stop when asked. Duchess was used as a trail riding horse by her previous owners. We feel that at 25 she can be used for short trails and for light riding.

Interested in Duchess? Call us at 605-391-3122 or fill out the adoption pre-application here.

Rebel-Adoption pending

Rebel is a sweet Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse gelding. This breed is known for its interesting gaited walk. He is a little bit shy but has an “in-your-pocket” personality who loves attention once he gets to know you. When he first arrived, he had some hoof maintenance issues that we have treated, and he is now suitable for light riding and trails. He was previously used as a trail horse and has a spirited nature.

Interested in Rebel? Call us at 605-391-3122 or fill out the adoption pre-application here.

Steve-Adoption pending

Steve is a 13-year-old sturdy, thick-boned grade Quarter Horse draft mixed gelding. His previous owner used him for trail riding and hunting in the mountains. He enjoys attention, treats, scratches, and being brushed. Watching him move around the pasture, he appears to have a smooth trot for his build. He has been ridden and evaluated and is found to be well-trained. Easy to saddle and responds to leg cues. He is forward-moving and is willing to please his rider.

Interested in Steve? Call us at 605-391-3122 or fill out the adoption pre-application here.

Sassy

Sassy is a 24-year-old AQHA mare with a gentle nature who absolutely loves being groomed. She’s easy to ride and very kid-friendly, making her a great match for a child or grandchild who is just learning or wants a calm, easygoing ride.

Sassy does have Cushing’s disease, which is managed with Prascend and a controlled diet. She can be on pasture for short periods, but a grazing muzzle has been used in the past. This has worked well for her to prevent an exacerbation of her condition, but a dry lot is preferred. She will also need senior feed to help maintain her weight.

If you’re looking for a kind, steady companion, come meet this sweet girl!

  • Personality: A social butterfly who is always the first to trot to the fence to greet you.

Lizzy

Meet Lizzy, a 14-year-old Paint mare whose personality is as vibrant as her coat! Lizzy arrived at Happy Tails Haven in April through a heartfelt owner surrender. Her previous owner adored her and made the compassionate choice to ensure she found a loving, permanent home rather than risking the uncertainty of an auction.

  • A True Socialite: This sweet girl is always the first to greet visitors, eagerly heading to the fence for a "hello" and some attention.

  • Gentle & Patient: According to her previous home, Lizzy was a star with the local kids, who would frequently come over to ride her bareback around the yard.

  • Experienced & Ready: She is well-trained and brings a steady, seasoned presence.

Lizzy is looking for a partner who will appreciate her kind nature and well-mannered soul. If you’re looking for a companion who is as reliable as she is affectionate, Lizzy is waiting at the fence for you!
